Scotland is about 275 miles long and 150 miles wide at its widest point, covering about 30,000 square miles. The circumference around its irregular coastline is over 6000 miles. The furthest distance from the sea that one can get in Scotland is about 40 miles. The tallest mountain in Great Britain is in Scotland: Ben Nevis at just over 4000 feet. The Firth of Forth Bridge, north of Edinburgh, is nearly 8200 feet long. It took £3 million, 5000 men and seven years (1883-1900) to build. Today it takes 35 workers and three years to paint it! "For auld lang syne" means "for the time long since gone". It should NOT be sung as "old lang zyne". The biggest export of Scotland is whisky. Scotch whisky must be aged only in Scotland; foreign whiskies are usually spelled "whiskey".
