San Diego Scottish Highland Games - Competition Results
It was a bright and sunny day on that
Sunday in Vista, California
when the heavies came to throw. They were ready to do battle with
themselves and show the world that there is a reason they throw heavy
things, because they can. Two old bulls of the woods came out to throw
in the masters class. A true testament to the ancient highland spirit.
The men who came out and set the world records don't see themselves as
world class. They remain humble which puts them in a class all their
own. The two men of the 60+ masters class were long time thrower Vern
Alexander and relative new comer Frank Carl. Vern set two world records
the first in the light distance (28 pounds) for a distance of 47' 9
inches in extra throws and the second in the light hammer at 82' even in
regular
competition.
Frank Carl set a new world record in the 16 pound sheaf at a height of
20' 10" . Both men are on their way to Scotland to compete in the
Masters World Championship. Truly a great way to arrive in Scotland,
world record holders. A place where our beloved highland games
originated.
