The Board of Directors of the San Diego Scottish Highland Games, Inc. has established the Chieftain's Financial Assistance and Scholarship Program in commemoration of the Association's 25th Anniversary. Monetary awards will be made during the year with the purpose of meeting two objectives, as set forth in the
Bylaws:

  • To provide educational opportunities from which the public may learn about modern and ancient Scottish culture

  • To foster and support those who wish to learn and develop the Scottish arts. This shall include, but shall not be limited to providing opportunities for the exhibition of athletic and artistic abilities and providing scholarships or other such assistance to improve skills

Guidelines

Application for assistance is welcomed from individuals or groups pursuing study or expertise in the Scottish arts as described above.

  • Applicants must be San Diego County residents

  • Immediate relatives (children, parents, spouse, siblings) of Board members may not participate

  • Previous recipients of this Award may not participate

  • Financial award will be sent directly to the provider of goods and services whenever possible

Process

Completed applications may be submitted at any time throughout the year by mailing to the San Diego Scottish Highland Games Scholarship Committee. Applications will be considered at the Board meeting following receipt of the application. Notice of acceptance or denial of the application will be made in writing to the applicant within 30 days following the meeting. Approval of funding will be determined by a majority vote of Board lemmas. The decision of the Board is final and will be based on the following criteria:

  • Relative benefit of the Award to 1) the applicant, and 2) the community

  • Purpose of the request relative to the objectives of the SDSHG and the Fund

  • Length of time the applicant has been involved in the activity

  • Contents of letters of recommendation

Responsibility of the Recipient of the Award

In accepting a financial award from the SDSHG, Inc. the recipient agrees to furnish documentation of fulfillment of the activity funded. Applicable taxes on this Award will be the responsibility of the recipient. The recipient further agrees to furnish a report to the Board of Directors of the SDSHG, Inc. describing the recipient's use of the Award. This report should be submitted within 60 days from the completion of the funded activity.
